The American Lung Association's 2017 clean air report released late Tuesday, April 18, 2017 says Denver has the nation's 11th-worst ozone levels.
Allen says the biggest hit to the ozone grade comes from the east county, particularly the Red Hills area.
Lisa Fasano, spokeswoman with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, said the problem is that many areas are not served by natural gas, including parts of the San Geronimo Valley.
The six metropolitan areas on the complete most polluted cities list which also had at least some days where air pollution did not reach unhealthy levels includes, Elmira, New York, Wilmington, North Carolina, Burlington, Vermont, Melbourne, Florida, and the Fort Myers and Naples region of Florida. That's the best rate the county has ever had recorded.
The report focuses on two key kinds of pollution: particles and ozone.
San Diego County's air quality has dramatically improved since the year 2000.
Still, the report suggests that more than 90 percent of Californians live in areas with unhealthy air at some point during the year.
A new report out, "The State of the Air", done by the American Lung Association shows the majority of our counties have poor air quality. Seilback pointed to the Clean Air Act. They are referring to the Trump administration's proposal to cut 31 percent of the Environmental Protection Agency's budget and "discontinue funding for the Clean Power Plan, global climate change programs, climate change research and partnership programs".
She says both actions would represent a major step backward in the effort to further improve air quality in the U.S.
The people most at risk from inhaling ozone pollution are typically children, teenagers, and senior citizens.
"The third cleanest county in the Nation for Particulate Matter is a significant indicator of the hard work and dedication this community has to maintaining a healthful environment", Gearhart said. "In order to properly look at that, it requires looking at all of the different scales at which air pollution is generated and has an effect on health".
"It's more likely that someone with asthma might end up in the emergency room, might need more medication, might need to see their doctor", Stewart said.
Casey Harvell Bowers, the association's director of public policy in MA, says the worst air pollution was in Bristol and Essex Counties, which received a failing grade for ozone quality.
The Cleveland region did experience fewer one-day spikes in particle pollution, however. "It also is greatly risky for people with diabetes and it causes lung cancer". "This is simply unacceptable", Harold P. Wimmer, national president and CEO of the American Lung Association, said in a statement.
Mullally said regulations under the federal Clean Air Act shouldn't be relaxed. And Lincoln and Beatrice are ranked as two of the cleanest USA cities for ozone air pollution. That's a good place for it, but down at ground level it's a powerful respiratory irritant.
