Thompson was front and center in a firestorm of debate after she was assessed a four-shot penalty on the back nine of the final round of the ANA Inspiration, where she appeared to be on her way to running away with her second major championship title.

Ko, who raved about the course after an opening-round 67, said she enjoys the tour stop for different reasons. The course is in the best shape I've ever seen it. She only missed hitting the green on No. 12. But the only way I would jump out of a perfectly good plane is with a SEAL on my back. "Now I know which events I am going to play and mostly I will be in the field more than out of the field", she said.

"Walking to the (next) tee I said, 'Forget it, start again", Chun said. "I have always been a very good putter and it helps a lot on the LPGA because there are a lot of players who are nearly doing the same thing, hitting fairways and hitting greens so sometimes I feel like the only way to make the difference is if you putt well", she said.

“The second nine was pretty insane, ” Thompson said.

"I have always liked this place", Ko said. I've stayed on-site the last couple years. Really, that's all you can do. "It's just so convenient".

Ironically, in the 2017 LPGA player guide, they list Thompson's top three things on her bucket list: Skydiving, playing a round at Pebble Beach, and flying an F/A 18 fighter jet. I was either just making it to the field or not making it.

The track wasn't so kind to Chesapeake native and former University of Virginia star Lauren Coughlin, who was playing on a sponsor's exemption.

Cristie Kerr managed to get herself up to even par and made the cut but she's struggling to find her form this week.

Brooks Koepka, who lost to Garcia on the first playoff hole at the TPC Four Seasons a year ago, joined Johnson and five others at 67.

One bogey, on the sixth hole, spoiled a round which featured five birdies.

Because of her conditional status, the 19-year-old Bengalurean's entry into tournaments would often be shrouded in doubt till the last minute.
