GOP members were practicing for the game Wednesday when a gunman opened fire at an Alexandria, Va., ballfield. He told his wife that he was headed to Washington, D.C., "to work on taxes".
United States media identified Hodgkinson, who died following a shootout with police in the Washington suburb of Alexandria, as a 66-year-old from Belleville Illinois, a suburb of St. Louis. Hodgkinson, who died in return fire from police, was a 66-year-old activist who volunteered with Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign.
The FBI says Hodgkinson had been living for the past three months in his vehicle and taking showers at the YMCA in Alexandria, Virginia. She said her estranged husband had sold nearly everything from his business before leaving.
Hodgkinson's attack shocked those who knew him as a popular and "laid-back" blue-collar worker in his hometown of Belleville, Illinois. "I can't wrap my head around it", she said.
"I just want you to all go away and leave my neighbors in peace", she said.
"I would argue that the president is at least - is partially - again, not in any way totally but partially to blame for demons that have been unleashed", said South Carolina Rep. Mark Sanford in an interview on MSNBC.
Brooks aided two of the wounded following the early-morning shooting.
Mr Scalise's surgeon said he can hope to make an "excellent recovery", despite being seriously ill when he arrived at hospital after the shooting in Virginia last week. He's had a second surgery and will be in the hospital a while.
Several people were injured, including Rep. Scalise.
Lobbyist Matt Mika was shot multiple times and remains hospitalized. His family said Thursday he had suffered "massive trauma" and was "lucky to be alive". Crystal Griner, one of the Capitol Police officers, was hit in the ankle and is in good condition at MedStar Washington.
Duncan said Hodgkinson had asked him if the team was Republicans or Democrats.
