Air quality, severe thunderstorm and flash flood alert issued for area

This is the third warning for Livingston County.

The heaviest rain is likely between midnight and 8 a.m., forecasts show. Rainfall rates will top two inches per hour in the strongest storms. Major flooding is expected for Blanchard and Portage rivers, with moderate flooding expected for the Scioto and Auglaize rivers. The NWS said affected by flooding are Lackawanna, West Seneca, Hamburg, East Aurora, Warsaw, Varysburg, Geneseo and Dansville. This includes Interstate 390 between exits 5 and 7 and Interstate 90 between exits 57 and 54.

Thunderstorms are in the area, producing heavy rain. Genesee County Central Dispatch said the center lane is reported to be impassable.

According to the We Energies outage map, 9,605 customers are without service as of 9:30 p.m. Flash flooding is expected to follow.

Roads were flooded from Cheektowaga to Cortland. This means to watch for flooding within low-lying areas, river and stream basins and in urban areas. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over half of all flood-related drownings happen when a vehicle is driven into flood waters. The Flood Watch is in effect for Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties.

The watch had been scheduled to expire at 11 a.m. "With the severe weather and flood advisories issued, right now is the best time to take steps to protect your flooding and home from potential flooding".
