Facebook announced on Monday (21) that the service of verification of the security of its users will be permanent in both the mobile application and the web. In addition, the social network has simplified how users check if their friends are registered as “safe”, either on account of a natural disaster or some type of dangerous event.
The security verification feature is now available in a tab itself, next to page tabs, groups, events, friends and other categories. “Security testing helps our community to let loved ones know that they are safe during a crisis, find them and help each other, and learn more about a crisis,” Facebook explained. “There is now only one place to see where the security check has been activated recently, get the information you need and potentially help the affected areas.”

When accessing the user security check through the new tab, it is possible to see a disasters feed and updates of friends that have been marked as the one of the insurance through the tool. One section reveals all regions of the world where security check has been recently enabled.
The security function was adopted by Facebook about three years ago, allowing people to verify the status of their friends and family during natural disasters. Over time, the social network extended the service to cover cases related to acts of violence and terrorist attacks, publishing it in 2015, during the attacks in Paris. This year, the functionality gained a new button for users interested in offering assistance and supplies to people affected by a disaster or humanitarian crisis.
The change is already being made available to all users and should be completed within the next few weeks. The idea of Facebook in giving more importance to the service of verification of the safety of its users comes after the growing wave of terrorist attacks in Europe, including the outrage in Barcelona.
